One way to liven things up a little is to choose a theme. Be creative—a theme can be anything from the obvious (Halloween costume party) to the original (bad karaoke night) to the outrageous (Vegas casino night). Once you’ve chosen a theme, create a menu around it. There’s no need to be literal (baby veggies for a baby shower, etc.). Instead, make recipes that are in sync with the spirit of the party and that allow you to enjoy yourself. So for an activity-filled gathering, pick recipes that you can make in advance, and are easy to eat while moving around.
