Fruit & Grain

Studies show that people who eat breakfast have a better diet quality than those who skip their morning meal. Eating breakfast is also associated with lower risk for some chronic diseases, a lower prevalence of obesity and more successful weight loss. A balanced breakfast includes a variety of food groups like fruit and grains.

the good stuff

Author and health educator, Lisa Drayer, M.A., R.D, explains the benefits of the following ingredients found in our fruit and grain products.

Flaxseed

Flaxseed Flax and other plant foods contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential Omega-3 fatty acid. ALA must come from our diets since our bodies can’t produce this fatty acid. ALA Omega-3 is involved with nerve development and growth.

Calcium

Calcium, which is found in yogurt, is important for strong bones, and many people do not get the recommended daily amount.

Whole Grains

According to U.S. Dietary guidelines, consuming at least three servings of whole grains every day as part of a healthy diet may help with weight control and may lower risk for other chronic diseases.

Fiber

Fiber-rich diets have been associated with various health benefits, including digestive health, decreased risk of heart disease and helping to maintain normal blood sugar.

flavorful fruits

Acai
Grown in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, the acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is a small, round, dark purple berry with a rich, smooth flavor.

Blueberry
Plump, juicy blueberries are wonderful in baked goods because they retain their delicately sweet flavor.

Cherry
Delicious cherries come in a multitude of varieties, from the vibrant, deep-red Bing to the delicately flavored, yellow-hued Rainier to the mild-tasting, heart-shaped Sweetheart.

Cranberry
Tart, bright red cranberries are often used in breads and muffins to add a vivid pop of flavor.

Orange
The orange is one of the world’s most popular fruits, and its juice adds a bright, sweet, citrusy tang to many dishes.

Pomegranate
Inside the tough outer rind of the pomegranate fruit are a mass of small, bright red berries. They are incredibly juicy, tart and sweet.
